Office Office

People have generally asked me how is work umpteen number of times. And invariably my reply to that is time pass is great. Finally I think it is time to tell about my so called TIME PASS

Moving from Wipro to MS to draw comparatives is like travelling by normal train and a Rajdhani Express. In the name of making the atmosphere world class Microsoft tries to add stuff unheard in Wipro.

Let begin from the very beginning.

The entire office is centrally air conditioned. The only time one can think of getting Vitamin D is when he is walking from the parking space to the office building which is about 3 min walk maximum. Be it the Office bus (Shuttle is the termionolgy used) which is air conditioned to the cafeteria and the loo which is also air conditioned. I think given a choice these guys will think of air conditioning the parking space.

Typically you will find people thinking of coming at 9:30 in the morning but by the time they reach their workspace it is already 10:00 (there is that breakfast slot which is there and the canteen has a TV so people spend more time gazing at the news then actually eating).

Morning mails Google and Yahoo! ( Now that Yahoo has been offered for takeover by MS even better) chat will occupy about 11:00. then it is time to take break from the hectic schedule. Time for Cuppa (something to drink). Coffee comes in atleast 3 types (Latte, Richosta and noir) the coffee is brewed once you press the button. Atleast 6 types of tea bags available, Chocolate milk (Check with Deepa how it tastes) and then fountain version of Coke, Fanta, sprite and thumbs up and finally Boost and Horlicks for the energy seeking souls.

For typing it took me 3 minutes then I think to taste all this may be half a cup just imagine the time required. With a cuppa there is newpaper to read and small time informal chat on what is the plan for the day.

Time flies by when you do these stuff it is already 11:30. If they do not start work MS manager is going to find it hard to find some job for himself. So work starts at 11:30.

But lo before anything major could be done it is time for Lunch

The lunch menu would run into pages so to keep it short you can get most of the stuff in here. But invariably you get bored in 3 days. By time you complete lunch watching the various cricket series it is 1:30 PM.

Man half a day gone an nothing done realisation sets in some 1 hour of solid meeting with teams in a conference on what are the possible activities which can be done but agenda kept different and parties are different.

With such high powered discussions I think we deserve for another cup of coffee and some general chat on Tendulkar's century or the Australian on field behaviour.

Time is 3:30 when realisation sets in you have not done your work, you have got your bank account checked online or your daily profit or loss made in the market when the market is so volatile and feeling good or bad about it and most important claiming reimbursement for official expenses made. Invariably lot of such activities are there which you take abundant pains in doing.

Phew what a day with such tough work accomplished hunger sets in. The canteen serves some snacks for FREE(thats the key word) at 4:00 and there are 2 canteen. You can visit both the canteens.

By the time you are done with all these activities for the day it is time to bid adieu to office for the day. But most important of jobs see to that you send in atleast 2 or 3 mails to some body for a stupid reasons marking your manager otherwise he will lose track and assume you were on leave.

Time to leave for the day the shuttle is there to pick you up at 6:00 fully air conditioned you walk in and rest your eyes till you reach your stop.

This is all the activities on a regular day then there are some special days where you have inter department ricket match, football match, training session etc which you need to attend (T-shirts, goodies and prizes are good here).

These are the most interesting days of the month. For the boring days where they make you slog till 6:00 everyday in the name of work forget about it I get headache thinking about it also
