What every IITian does

Yep I am writing this mail b'coz Harish has written 3 and I have written none (and we always compete). He wrote on books b'coz he reads books. What do I write on? Of course what every IITian does round the clock - movies...
While 1. most of you would have watched more movies than I and 2. I am a poor critic, the mail may not be so convincing but so what, no mail convinces anyone anytime.

Like my friend once said - "I am 24. I have wasted 20 of those watching Bollywood". And so all movies listed here are English movies only. I would have watched at least a 15 movies this semester and I did like most of them. Here is my review of some of them

1, 2, 3. The X Men series - A wonderful movie both for its action and screenplay. Fantasy was obviously its selling point but I liked the movie for the characterization. Wolverine for his bravery and magneto for his calmness and of course the rivalry that Wolverine faces when he meets Magneto ("I have learnt it, have you?") are my favorites in the movie. But of course there is more to this movie than just action.

4. Batman begins - I have never watched a movie that is so complete in itself like this one. To many this might seem to be just a movie from a comic strip. but is it? The movie actually explains how Batman is just one of us with a two specialties. One of course is his training on the Ninja way and the other is his love for his motherland and its people's betterment. An excellent movie for both the story lovers and the action watchers.

5. The Illusionist - A love story on the cover, Illusionist is a movie with a twist that you would never expect. The story is about a magician who meets the love of his life after a long time only to find she is engaged to the Prince of the country and later dies when she refuses to marry the Prince. How the Prince is brought to justice forms the reminder of the story told in a gripping yet steady moving story of Illusionist.

6. The Prestige - "There are three stages in a magic act - The Pledge, The Turn and The Prestige" Prestige though a far fetched movie is not about the screenplay but about the story. How bad and destructive rivalry, jealousy and negative competition can become is what the story is on. Though a story on two magicians, it could as well be written with any other profession in its center.

7, 8. A Bugs Life, Antz - An individual can influence an entire community if he desires so. And this is true even if the individual belongs to a non-individualistic society like the colony of ants. And that exactly is what the two movies are about. Through people may pass this movie to children saying it is just a cartoon show, the movie is basically for people of all ages who think themselves to be small in the world and hence to everyone of us.

9. Monsters Inc. - Laughter is better than crying. I am not sure if that is what the movie says but so what? Why should a movie say anything? Isnt fun sufficient for a movie? Monsters Inc is all about what if monsters were actually afraid of kids and the ones that frighten kids are just the warriors doing it for their existence!

10, 11. Toy Story 1 n 2 - My mom used to say to me "if that thing had a mouth it would cry". Toy story is about toys with feelings - fear, jealousy, anger, courage and everything else. A wonderful movie with enough twists to make it a thrilling watch.

Of course there are a lot more movies in queue. But common how many of you actually reached this line.
So without wasting further bytes,
Mahesh
